Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
School dropouts have become a significant concern in Nigeria, with Kwami Local Government Area (LGA) in Gombe State facing its own unique challenges in addressing this issue. The reasons for high dropout rates in Kwami are influenced by various geopolitical strategies, including local governance policies, the role of education in political agendas, and regional efforts to improve educational infrastructure (Usman & Rabi, 2023).
Kwami LGA is predominantly rural, with many children, especially in remote areas, unable to continue their education due to factors such as poverty, lack of schools, and socio-political factors that hinder educational access. The political will of local and state governments plays a pivotal role in addressing these challenges, as does the involvement of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international partners (Jibril & Saad, 2024). This study aims to assess the role of geopolitical strategies in reducing school dropouts in Kwami, exploring the extent to which political decisions, resource allocation, and regional initiatives contribute to improving educational outcomes.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite various initiatives aimed at improving education in Kwami LGA, school dropout rates remain high, especially among children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The role of local and regional political strategies in addressing this issue has not been thoroughly examined. This study seeks to explore how geopolitical strategies can be leveraged to reduce school dropout rates in the region.

1.4 Research Questions
1.5 Research Hypothesis
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is significant because it provides insights into how geopolitical factors can influence educational outcomes, particularly in rural areas like Kwami LGA. By exploring the role of local and regional political strategies, the study will offer recommendations for policymakers, educational authorities, and NGOs to enhance school retention and reduce dropout rates in the area.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on Kwami LGA in Gombe State, with a specific emphasis on school dropout rates and the role of geopolitical strategies. The limitations include challenges in collecting comprehensive data on local governance policies and educational programs, as well as the potential influence of external factors such as economic conditions.
